Magyar Telekom To Create New TowerCo

Hungarian mobile operator Magyar Telekom has confirmed plans to spin off its telecom tower assets, marking a major step in the country’s ongoing shift toward dedicated digital infrastructure platforms.

Following a strategic review launched last summer, the company plans to transfer around 2,800 tower and rooftop sites into a new, wholly owned subsidiary. Magyar Telekom will retain roughly 900 of its 3,700 sites, while the newly carved-out entity will house the bulk of its passive mobile infrastructure. A final approval is expected at the company’s AGM in May, with the transaction structure to be completed by the end of the year.

This spin-off positions Magyar Telekom to unlock value, streamline its operations, and participate more strategically in Europe’s rapidly maturing tower market.
