Yettel invests €100M to accelerate Serbia’s 5G future

Yettel has taken a major step toward Serbia’s 5G future by investing more than €100 million in new mobile spectrum, following a successful national auction led by the regulator RATEL in November.

The operator secured strategic 5G frequencies in the 700 MHz, 2600 MHz, and 3.6 GHz bands—key for national coverage, high data capacity, and ultra-low latency. Yettel also renewed usage rights in several existing bands, ensuring continuity as it transitions to next-generation services.

With regulatory procedures now underway, Yettel plans to begin network deployment immediately and launch commercial 5G services in December.

Yettel highlights that 5G will unlock new digital services for industries including healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and public safety—supporting Serbia’s wider digital transformation and strengthening its regional competitiveness.

Industry analysts note that mid-band spectrum is becoming essential as data traffic rises across Europe, driven by streaming, cloud gaming, and enterprise digitalization. Yettel’s move reflects a broader European trend of operators expanding 5G portfolios to prepare for future network demand.
