Vodafone Spain looks beyond Vantage Towers to Cellnex and American Tower

Vodafone España's decision to review a number of its passive infrastructure leases in favor of Cellnex Telecom and American Tower highlights a structural shift in the European tower market.

By unwinding site reliance from its legacy anchor provider, Vantage Towers, exemplified by the expanded commercial agreement with Cellnex, the operator is creating optionality for future network expansion.

Under Zegona's stewardship, the mandate is straightforward: negotiate contractual flexibility, reduce leasing opex, and free up capital to invest in 5G standalone and next-generation fiber.

Beyond balance-sheet restructuring, this highlights a broader industry reality: the leverage is returning to network operators.

As TowerCos aggressively compete to lock in stable, long-duration tenancies, legacy agreements are being systematically reassessed in favor of best-value providers.
